CURE CLAIMED FOR PNEUMONIA
TREATMENT WITH NEW ' DRUG REMARKABLE SUCCESSES REPORTED LONDON, June 17. The “Lancet” publishes an account of remarkably successful treatments for pneumonia, with a recent sulphonamide derivative called Mayand and Baker 693. The cures include that of an old woman whose left lung had collapsed. “There is no doubt that the treatment provides a new weapon of the greatest effectiveness,” states “The Times.” ' . _ . r A distinguished bacteriologist states: “It is too good to be true. We can scarcely allow ourselves to believe that diseases of such a" desperate character as severe pneumonia, streptococcal meningitis, and puerperal fever can now be cured with the sulphanilamide group of drugs.” ■
