ANNUAL FINANCIAL STATEMENT
EXCESS OF RECEIPTS OVER
PAYMENTS
Gfeneral receipts at £15,258 14s and payments at £15,207 9s 6d were shown in the annual financial statement presented by the treasurer (Mr J M. Fraser) at the monthly meeting of the Rangiora Borougfc Council on Wednesday. The Mayor (Mr C. W. Tyler) presided over a full attendance. Other items were shown as follows (last year’s figures in parenthesis): Electricity receipts £5671 15s Id, payments £5671 5s 4d: net overdraft on general account. £ 1042 7s Id* net credit on electricity account £j37 lbs Id; total rates "aid, £5630 15s 8d (£5204): administration, £10& I (£1096); reserves, £229 (£356); works. £1906 (£1714); relief works, £1394 (£202); highways only. £24 f£1167): gas receipts, £3802 (£3B3ii, gas payments, £3481 (£3487), Commenting on the financial statement, the treasurer said that the town hall cost £59 more than the estimate of £6O, but this included a sinking fund payment of £162. The library cost £29 more than the estimate of £285, and books purchased cost £122 15s Id, which was £2 15s Id more than the estimate. The cemetery cost to date totalled £330 and.new landl at the sewerage works cost £630. ine general debit balance had been lowered by £260. The gas credit increased by £320, and the electricity account remained the same.
MAYOR ENTERTAINS
COUNCILLORS
FUNCTION AT RANGIORA
After the monthly meeting of the Rangiora Borough Council on Wednesday, the Mayor (Mr C. W. Tyler) and the Mayoress (Miss Tyler) entertained councillors and friends at supper at their home. Various toasts were honoured and items were given by Messrs F. A., Lane, J. C. Hancox, and E. D. R. Smith. Mention was made of the work of the retiring councillors (Messrs J. A. Ivory and C. J. Smith), who had served the borough for periods of seven years and two years respectively. The gathering was appreciative of the hospitality of the Mayor and Mayoress, not only during the evening, but on previous occasions.

Miss M. M. Wade, dental clinic nurse at Rangiora, has been transferred to the Hamilton Dental Clinic.
Mrs M. E. Benke, her son. Bruce, and Miss E. E. Maffey, who have been spending several months with Mr T. Maffey, Puaha, left for Sydney recently, where they will join the Jervis Bay for England. • Miss Eileen Harty has returned to Christchurch after staying with her parents, Mr and Mrs J. C. Harty, sen.
AKAROA
Mr J. Drummond, who has been the Akaroa agent for Evans shoe store for some years, will leave shortly to take up a new position with the firm’s branch in Timaru. Mr Drummond has been keenly interested .in Akaroa affairs. Mr G. Scott, Christchurch, will succeed Mr Drummond.
HORORATA
Miss M. L. Conner (Dunedin) is spending a holiday with Mr and Mrs Mauger, the Schoolhoyse, Hororata. • Mrs W. Thwaites and Mr J. F. Thwaites are visiting Hampden, North Otago. Mr W. A. Fernice. Canterbury Education Board Inspector, visited the Hororata School this week. _ . Mr and Mrs S. Gibson and Mr Quinn (Christchurch) have been the guests of Mr and Mrs E. Fleming. Miss Thorne is spending a holiday with Mr and Mrs Cartwright, Wasbd: Mr and Mrs Bernhard Wilks, who have been visiting Mr and Mrs G. C. Defrett, “Mill Farm.” Hororata, have returned to Christchurch.

PRESENTATION BY RANGIORA DRAMATIC SOCIETY
A pleasant evening was spent on Wednesday at the home of Mr and Mrs Seth Newell, when members and friends of .the Rangiora Dramatic Society met to honour Mrs J. A. Mackenzie, who will leave the district. The presentation of a bouquet of autumntinted flowers was made to Mrs Mackenzie by Mrs W. T. Wilson and Mrs Newell presented Mrs Mackenzie with a rose-bowl.
WOMEN’S HOCKEY AT
RANGIORA
The senior A women’s hockey fixture at Rangiora to-morrow is ora v. Kiwi, at Dudley Park. The following players will represent Rangiora: Misses N. Forward, B. Watkins, J. Harper, G. Stent, N. Watkins, C. Watkins, P. Wilson, D. Seed, B. Laskey, H. Mclntosh, R. Moran.
