LONDON, April 5.
The Australian Associated Press understands that the Prime Minister of Czechoslovakia (Dr. Hodza) is making renewed attempts to settle the Sudeten German problem, and that he will shortly submit proposals to the British and French Governments.
It is gathered that this initiative is the sequel to Mr Chamberlain’s pronouncements in the House of Commons when he expressed the hope that the problem might be settled by friendly mediation between the parties. However, the outcome of it is doubtful, since Herr Hitler insists that the Sudetens, in common with all other German nationals, must be completely under his banner. Meanwhile the European Chancelleries are closely watching Memel, the Nazification of which is proceeding apace. The impression is that Memel will soon go Austria’s way.
