For the purpose of discussing the strengthening of France’s influence in Eastern Europe to offset future German moves, the French Foreign Minister (M. Paul-Boncour) has summoned a conference of the French diplomatic representatives in Germany, Russia, Poland, Czechoslovakia, and Rumania.

Considerable important is attached to the conference, of which “1 "CEuvre” says; “France’s initiative has already produced an excellent impression in the Balkans, which is welcoming the rejuvenation of French foreign policy. Various recent signs of opposition to Hitlerism have shown the correctness of M. Paul-Boncour’s opinion that France could regain the upper hand. This, if cleverly manipulated and backed up by the necessary pressure, would yield a majority for Nazi Germany. Dr. Schuschnigg, to forestall this, decided to hold a plebiscite while a free vote for an independent Austria still was possible, but he counted without Herr Hitler.
