AS HIGH AS THAT

(By Margaret Hall)

If I was -as high as a steeple spire. What lots of things I’d see. The chickens in the farmyard, And the neighbours having tea. The cattle in the meadow; And perhaps I’d find The shepherd with his sheep at

night. With his sheep dog close behind. And far away on the winding road. Where travellers plod along, I’d watch the progress of a load, Pulled by a cart horse strong. Yet I’m sure I’d have a longing, To pick the flowers down there, To walk along the winding road. Instead of perching there.
