BOARD

The remodelling and repairing of schools and teachers’ residences in Canterbury is likely to be very costly in the near future, according to the chairman of the Canterbury Education Board (Mr J. W, Preen), Mr Preen expressed this opinion at a meeting of the board yesterday. “There have not been funds to meet all applications in recent years,” said Mr Preen. “The report of the foreman of works shows a shocking state ° f Mr TJ. Hurley said that many school committees were somewhat annoyed at the delay, especially where grants had been approved and nothing had been done. Mr C. S. Thompson: I cannot understand the position. There has been more money available in the last two years than in the previous four or five. We cannot do everything at once The men are not available.
