FUNERALS
MR JOHN GLENCOE MACDONALD
The funeral- of Mr John Glencoe Macdonald, who died at his residence, 52 Murray place, on Monday, was held at the Woodend Anglican cemetery yesterday. Well known in sporting circles and among the farming community, Mr Macdonald had a wide circle of friends, and the funeral was largely" attended. For many years, Mr Macdonald was an auctioneer for Pyne, Gould, Guinness, Ltd., in Christchurch, and in this position he came into contact with farmers in most parts of Canterbury. As a racing enthusiast and a former owner, he was known throughout New Zealand. He retired some years ago, and continued to live in Christchurch.
Mr Macdonald, who was in his seventieth year, is survived bv his widow, one son (Mr H. Macdonald, solicitor), and one daughter (Mrs J. D. Carl), all of whom reside in Christchurch. The funeral was conducted by Archdeacon A. K. Warren, and the pallbearers were Messrs Ronald and George Macdonald (brothers), Alex, and Hector Macdonald, J. MR THOMAS NEWBURGH
Many business and local body interests were represented at the funeral of Mr Thomas Newburgh, which left his home on the Esplanade at Sumner for the Bromley cemetery yesterday afternoon. All borough work had been suspended, and the flags on the Borough Council Chambers, the Post Office, the Sumner Surf Life Saving Club, and the Christchurch Yacht Club were flown at half-mast. In addition to the many cars which formed the procession from the house to the cemetery, numbers of citizens lined the roadside in both Sumner and Redcliffs, and many more were at the graveside. Representatives were present from the city and surrounding boroughs, and included the Mayor of Christchurch (Mr J. ■W. Beanland), the Town Clerk (Mr J. S. Neville), the Mayor of New Brighton (Mr E. L. Smith) and the Town 1 Clerk (Mr C. T. Middleton), the Mayor of Lyttelton (Mr F. E. Sutton) and the Town Clerk (Mr F. Hobbs), the Mayor of Rangiora (Mr C. W. Tyler) and the Town Clerk (Mr J. M.
