MIGRATION PLAN ADOPTED
DECISION OF AUSTRALIAN CABINET
SPECIAL LOW FARES FROM BRITAIN (Received March 8, 2 a.m.) CANBERRA, March 7. The resumption of assisted migration from Britain under the nomination system and the encouragement of the migration to Australia of retired army officers and civil servants from India are aspects of the Commonwealth migration scheme, which was adopted by the Federal Cabinet. There will also be reciprocity between Australian and British national insurance schemes to enable British migrants to retain in Australia the benefit rights which they acquired under the British scheme. Special low fares have been fixed for nominated migrants from Britain. The migrants will have to pass a medical examination and also satisfy the Commonwealth authorities in London of their suitability for life in Australia. Special attention is to be given to the after-care of the migrants.
