ROAD ACCIDENTS
XO THE EDITOR OF TBE PEES 3. Sir, —Your correspondent "Pull Up Your Socks" is perfectly right when
he says that the slow driver holding the crown of the road is one of the chief causes of week-end accidents. As an instance of the effect of the slow driver, on Sunday last on the North road a procession passed me consisting, of a small car driven by a very nervous-looking individual moving at not 20 miles an hour and followed in close formation by 22 other cars all waiting their chance to pass when there was an opportunity free from approaching cars. I maintain that the slow motorist on a bu=y road is quite as dangerous a driver as the speed merchant, and that no person should be allowed to obstruct the main roads by driving at low speeds. In America, I believe, there is a minimum speed on the main roads, and it seems only reasonable lhat there should be.—Yours, etc., mat mere g T SMITtL
TO 'HIE BDJTOtt OK THE t'ttESS,
Sh- .—Having read with interest the correspondence dealing with road accidents, I 'must say that I heartily endorse the remarks of "T.A.S. After o recent trip to Dunedin, which, by the way. was a nightmare owing to "road hogs" whizzing past like bullets, throwing up showers of shingle in your windscreen, and those coming in t'io opposite direction blinding you with their headlamps (some having the courtesy to dim). I understand that there is a law in Germany which prohibits speeding, and any offenders have their cars sealed for a certain number of miles. I think the time is ripe for a similar law to be enforced ' E On the trip to Dunedin I saw the results of three accidents, all cars involved being the latest streamlined models. That speaks for itself. I should like to suggest that some of our local inspectors go out on the main highways and catch some of speed kings instead of worrying about parking over the time limit jn the city.—Yours, etc., • . BABY AUSTIN. Match 6, 1938. rSubiect to the right of reply of "LBB " this correspondence is now elosed.-Ed.. "The Press. J
