CHINESE LOSSES AT SHANSI
JAPANESE REPORT OF RETREAT TOKYO, March 3. A Japanese military spokesman announces that China's Eighth Red Army has begun to retreat to the westward from the Yellow river to Shansi, after the loss of the border stronghold of Chungtu. This victory will cut off the Chinese supplies from Shansi. Several Chinese battalions are trapped in the Lung Shi-hsien area, and masses of dead around Pingyang suggest that the Chinese lost half their strength in Shansi. Official statistics show that the Japanese to March 1 destroyed 764 Chinese aeroplanes and lost 78 of their own. Chinese sources report that five Manchukuo Japanese divisions at Paotow mutinied and joined the Chinese. JAPANESE POLITICIAN ATTACKED FOUR MEN ASSAULT MEMBER OF DIET TOKYO, March 3.
