SATISFACTION OF RUGBY UNION MEETING OF MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE Satisfaction with the intention of the Lancaster Park Board of Control to erect an electric timing clock at Lancaster Park was expressed at a meeting of the management committee of the' Canterbury Rugby Union last evening. A "letter from the board stated that It would accept no responsibility for maintaining the clock apart from the cost of electricity.
The chairman (Dr. W. S. See<D saM that the cost to the union would be next to nothing. It would only be necessary to pay a man or boy to operate it. The union had been trying to get the clock for a couple of years. It was stated that the dial of the clock would be seven feet in diameter. The. referees were thoroughly in accord with the view that it was desirable to erect such a clock, said Mr A. E. McPhaiL It would be an aid to them, but it would still be the responsibility of the referees to decide the time. . Members indicated that the best place for the clock would be in front of the committee room above the old clock, where it would be seen by more people and would be more under control and safe from damage when no games were being played. It was decided that the grounds committee and Messrs E. V. Phillips and W. Maxwell should confer with the board on the matter. A letter was received from Mr G. EMaddison, of Hastings, stating that at a meeting of the New Zealand Rugby Union he had been appointed chairman of a sub-committee of the council to investigate and report on the encouragement, promotion, and assistance that might be given to primary and post-primary school football in New Zealand,'and asking the union to supply the views of Us members. The matter was referred to Messrs J. T. Burrows and E. M. Todd for a report Affiliation was granted to the Air Force Club, Sockburn, subject to the usual condition that T5 per cent of the playing members must not be members of any existing club and ail must be amateurs.
