Mr S. G. Holland, M.P., returned last evening from Dunedin.
Mr G. W. Hutchison, newly-chosen District Governor of Rotary in New Zealand, returned to Auckland last evening after attending the national conference of Rotary Clubs. Mr L. T. K. Allison, who has served for nine years as finance secretary of the Young Men's Christian Association, Christchurch, has resigned for private reasons. Mr Allison's resignation was accepted with regret at a meeting of the Board of Managers of the Association, and appreciation of his services was placed on record.
The Rev. Solomon Katz, Jewish Rabbi in Wellington, is visiting Christchurch on holiday, and is staying at the United Service Hotel.
Lord Dormer arrived in Christchurch last evening and is staying at the United Service Hotel.
Sir James Leigh-Wood, chairman of the Empire Games Federation, was a passenger from the north on the steamer express yesterday morning. He was accompanied by Lady Leigh-Wood.
Mr W. H. Lee, who represented S. A. Smith and Company, Ltd., for 13 years in Canterbury and Otago, and who was lately transferred to Auckland, has been appointed a director of the company.
Mr W. R. Carey returned from the north by the inter-island steamer yesterday morning. Mr J. H. Kirkwood was a passenger on the inter-island steamer from the north yesterday morning.
Dr. Carmalt Jones was a passenger on the inter-island steamer from the north yesterday morning.
Mr Norton Francis arrived by the steamer express from the north yesterday morning. Dr. H. G. Denham, of Canterbury University College, returned from the north by the steamer express yesterday morning. Mr A. W. Mulligan, private secretary to the Minister for Lands (the Hon. F. Langstone), has been appointed general secretary of the centennial branch of the Department of Internal Affairs.—Press Association. Mr Justice Northcroft will leave this morning for the West Coast to preside over sittings of the Supreme Court there.
Dr. A. F. Ritchie Crawford, of Invercargill, was unanimously re-elected president o'f the National Rifle Association at the annual meeting of the association at Trentham last evening.—Press Association.
