The annual report stated that the cantatas , “The Crucifixion” and “Bethlehem” had been given during the year and a quartet competition had been held. There was a membership of 47. CRICKET IN NORTH CANTERBURY POSITION OF TEAMS WOODEND LEADS SENIOR GRADE Positions of teams in the North Canterbury Cricket Sub-Association’s competitions are as follows: — Senior Grade—'Woodcnd 25 points. Rangiora 20, Kaiapoi 14, Loburn 7. Junior A Grade—Rangiora High School 40 points, Eyreton 32, Sefton 24. (Carlelon (one result to come) 0, Fernside (one result to come) 0. Junior B Grade—Amberley 43 points, Oxford 38, Horrelvillc 33, Kaiapoi 32, Loburn (one result to come) 29, Fenisidc 29. Swannanoa lone result to come) 23, Woodend (two results to come) 11. When the Morgan pennant competition, which is being played during the harvest season, is finished, ordinary competition matches will be resumed. Senior teams will play another round, which will take about nine Saturdays, and junior A teams will also have about 10 more Saturdays’ play. Junior B teams will finish the present round, giving another four days of play. PERSONAL NOTES RANGIORA Presentations to Miss J. Dennis and Mr C. W. Dodge, who will be married next week, were made by the choirmaster (Mr F. A. Lane) at a social function held by the Rangiora Methodist Church choir on Thursday evening. Gifts were also made to Misses U. Dennis, G. McCallum, N. Ayers, and M. Coatsworth (choir members), who have recently left the district, and to Miss D. Bennett, who will leave on Monday to visit Australia. Dr. and Mrs L. M. King (Rangiora). who will leave Port Chalmers on February 23 on a trip to Great Britain and the Continent, expect to be away for ’eight or nine months. Dr. King will do post-graduate study both in England and on the Continent, and hopes to visit France, Germany, Austria, and Switzerland. His practice will be carried on by Dr. R. D. Morrow (Christchurch), who will come to Rangiora next week. Messrs J. Marshall, G. M. Morgan, E. Snellex, and T. W. Herron will be the official representatives of the Rangiora Returned Soldiers’ Association in the contingent of returned men to go to Australia in April to take part in the one hundred and fiftieth anniversary celebrations. LITTLE RIVER Miss Helen Craddock, who has been spending a holiday with her parents, Mr and Mrs C. Craddock (Western Valley), left for Gisborne yesterday. Miss Rita McQueen and Miss Nellie Radford, who have been spending a holiday with Mr and Mrs E. H. Leo (Fairlie), have returned to Little River. AKAROA Miss L. Vangioni (Balgueri street, Akaroa) is spending a fortnight’s holiday in New Brighton. Mrs C. C. Narbey (Lavaud street. Akaroa). accompanied by her daughter, Miss Joyce Narbey fAuckland), is on a Holiday visit to Timaru. Mr A. E. Kingston (Lavaud street. Akaroa) has returned from a holidav in the North Island. RAINFALL FOR i JANUARY LITTLE RIVER The rainfall for January, recorded by Mr D. Richards (.Okuti Valley, Little River), was 3.38 inches. Rain fell on six days, the maximum daily fall being 1.39 inches on January 22. The rainfall for January, 1937, was 3.69 inches. KAIKOURA The rainfall for January at Kaikoura was 3.54 inches, which fell on seven days, the maximum fall being 2.15 inches on January 23. For January. 1977. 1.09 inches fell on eight days, the maximum fall being 35 points, on January 15. DUNSANDEL 1 The rainfall at Dunsandel for January, recorded b? Mr C. A. Wright, was 4.23 inches. The fall for the same month last year was 3 inches. Rain fell on seven days during the month. LITTLE RIVER MOTHERS’ UNION A meeting of the Little River branch of the Mothers’ Union was held at the vicarage recently, when Mrs Barnett presided. During the afternoon the Rev. A. H. Barnett, for those present presented Mrs A. Gibb, who is leaving the district to reside at Creenpark, with a small token.
