A BOGUS BURGLARY
♦ LABOURER TO BE SENTENCED FOR THEFT CFMSS iSgOCUTIO* TILIQgAJt.) WANGANUI. February 4. Leslie Clarence McSavney, a labourer pleaded guilty to breaking and entering a dwelling by day and stealing £29 10s and other articles of a total value of £3l 10s. He was committed to the Supreme Court for sentence. The property belonged to Mrs B. J. Taylor and another. The accused was left to look after the property, and while the occupants were on holiday he broke into a dressing room and stole the money. He went to the Palmerston North and Ellerslie races, spending most of the money, and then decided to “stage” a burglary. He injured himself on the face and telephoned the police to come quickly as there were burglars in the house. The police found him lying apparently semi-conscious, with the telephone on the floor.
