COST OF TOWN CLOCK PROPOSAL FOR JUBILEE OF RANGIORA VIEW OF TOWN CLERK A suggestion made by Mr D. Appleby > 3t the public meeting on Wednesday evening that the aim of any celebrations to mark the sixtieth anniversary of the Rangiora Borough this year should be to provide the town with a chiming clock, raised the question of the cost of a clock. It is stated that a suitable pjpck and tower would cost about £IpPD, According to the Town CJerk (Mr J. M- Fraser), however, the modern trend is to erect several smaller clocks with a central chiming mechanism rather than one large clock. This principle is said to fulfil the need for a public timepiece. Two bracket clocks and a chime could be provided for about £3OO. Gross receipts from the golden jubilee of the borough in 1928 amounted to £6Ol, the profit from the celebratjpps being £283. This money was used to provide gates for Dudley Park.
