IS THE PRESS FAIR?
.(I THE EDITOR OF THB PRESS. Sir. —V/e have heard a iot lately on that worn-out question. “Is the press fair?” Now another attacker rushes into print this morning, accusing the press of reporting meetings of the Nationalists and ignoring the Labour meetings. Instead of generally making these attacks, I would suggest to “W. 8.” that he wait until he hears of a case where a Labour meeting has been ignored, then write directly into thv newspaper asking why this particular meeting was ignored. Then, perhaps, “W. 8.” will have an explanation given to him; but just to suggest the press is unfair in general terms is ridiculous. I would inform “W. 8.” that all the National Party meetings arc not .reported. The newspapers would need to publish a 50-page issue daily, especially near election time, if they were to report all the meetings. If the Labour Government is reelected next November, “W. 8.” and others will wonder what fairness is, because then there will be no “fair press.” but a State control press. Yours, etc..
