RAILWAY EXCURSION TO WEST COAST
♦ MORE THAN 700 PERSONS ! MAKE TRIP More than 700 persons travelled from Christchurch to Greymouth on Sunday on the fifty-second excursion conducted by the Corsair Social Club. There were two special trains. At Greymouth, 221 embarked on the biggest motor-car trip ever to be conducted on the West Coast, and visited various places well known for then scenic attractions, including Punakaiki and the caves at the mouth of the Fox river. The day was wet, but, according to the organiser of the. excursion iMr C. A. C. Frost), the rain did not mar the enjoyment of the outing to any extent. , .. In addition to being struck with the curious pancake rock formation and the blowholes at Punakaiki, the visitors were impressed immensely, said Mr Frost by the coal flume at Hunter’s mine. They also were shown over a gold dredge at Barrytown. The club intends to conduct another excursion on March 20, Mr Frost said, when several of the West Coast lakes will be included in the itinerary.
