SAMOAN DELEGATES IN WELLINGTON
KAVA ROOT PRESENTED TO MR SAVAGE [From Our Parliamentary Reporter.! WELLINGTON, January 24. Discussions between the Samoan delegation and the New Zealand Government will begin to-morrow. The members of the delegation, who are to discuss Samoan problems with the Government, arrived at Wellington from Auckland to-day. They were met at the railway station by the Minister for Lands (the Hon. F. Langstone) on behalf of the Prime Minister (the Rt. Hon. M. J. Savage), and were later entertained by the Minister at morning tea. The delegation later called on the Prime Minister, to whom the Samoans paid their respects. As a token of goodwill, they presented Mr Savage with a kava root, clublike in shape. None of the problems that are to be considered was discussed at the meeting with Mr Savage. After this meeting, Mr Savage said that arrangements had been made for the delegation to meet members of the Government in Mr Langstone’s office at Parliament Buildings to-morrow. Because of pressure of his official duties, he would not be able to be present at to-morrow’s meeting, but he would arrange to be present at the later discussions. Mr O. F. Nelson is the leader of the delegation. The other members are the Hon. Tamasese, M.L.C., president of the Mau, Faalava Au, secretary of the Mau, Alipia Galu, leader of the Fono of Faipule (Council of District Chiefs), Leiataua, a member of the fono, Miss Olive Nelson, LL.B., legal adviser, and Mr A.
