A WET WEEK-END
MORE HEAVY RAIN AT RANGIORA SUMMER SPORTS AGAIN POSTPONED For the fourth time this season, summer sports could not be played in the Rangiora district during the week-end because of heavy rain, which fell on Saturday afternoon and all day yesterday. Heat showers accompanied northwesterly conditions on Saturday morning, but the rain became heavier in the afternoon, continuing all night and yesterday, when the wind was from the south-west and the temperature much lower.
Competitions of the North Canterbury Lawn Tennis Sub-Association are being held up by wet week-ends. Continued postponements have made the playing of the final series of matches difficult because of the full programme of representative fixtures set down for this part of the season. Matches in the Morgan, pennant competition of the North Canterbury Cricket SubAssociation will also have to be played later.
The wet weather will cause a holdup in harvesting in the district tnis week. Cutting and heading have begun in many rases. Crops have been flattened by the heavy rain, and it will probably be the latter part of the week before work can be resumed.
