CENSUS OF ROAD TRAFFIC

Tally in Amuri County SCHEME TO BEGIN THIS WEEK Starting at 6 a.m. on Wednesday, the summer census traffic of highways in the Amuri County will be conducted by the staff of the Amuri County Council for the Main Highways Board. TThe census Will be taken for a week until 6 a.m. on February 2, at two points in the county. The tally station will be at the Red Post, about two miles above Culverden, on i the junction of the Red Post-Jollies Pass; Waipara-Kaikoura via Culverden main highways and the main road from Christchurch to Westport via Lewis Pass; and at Waiau. on the junction of the Waiau-Lyndon and Wai-para-Kaikoura via Culverden main highways. *... . Both the stations are continuous. A similar tally was taken in. September last year, and the results of this will be used with the summer census.

Each tally clerk will work an eighthour shift, of which there will be three at both stations. The amount of traffic passing over these points will be recorded under different headings. These include private cars, trade motors (classified in four weights), service cars, buses, motor-cycles, tractors, traction engines, road plant, light and heavy horse-drawn vehicles, j horses, cattle, and sheep.
