FISH PLENTIFUL IN ASHBURTON RIVER
——♦ ACCLIMATISATION SOCIETY’S WORK The effect of the Ashburton Acclimatisation Society’s work in liberating trout in the Ashburton river during the last few years' is now to be seen in the number of fish in the river, according to local anglers who have been fishing some distance up stream from the mouth during the last week or so. Particularly near the River road it has been noticed that a large number of fish have been rising to the fly at dusk on warm evenings. Although no large fish have been caught, many small ones, in good condition, have been landed. If conditions are suitable, the fish are bound to provide good sport for the remainder of the season. The Ashburton river is low and clear at the present time, and a fresh is required to ensure good fishing for the holiday period.
