NORTH CANTERBURY SUBASSOCIATION RANGIORA AND WOODEND DRAW Woodend made a draw of its match against Rangiora In the senior grade of the North Canterbury Cricket Sub-Asso-ciation’s competitions on Saturday afternoon. The second senior fixture between Loburn and Kalapol resulted in a win for Loburn. Following are details of the day s play. Senior Grade RANGIORA V. WOODEND Declaring with 301 runs for the loss of seven wickets at the end of the first day s play, Rangiora was in a good position to win its match against Woodend. However. the home side’s opening batsmen made a good stand to draw the match, the scoreboard reading 252 runs for the loss of only two wickets at stumps on Saturday. Rex Ballinger was still in with 124 runs, G. Appleton made 76. A. Smith 23, and W. Hampton 19 not out. Bowling for Rangiora, F. Devlin took one wicket for 42 runs and C. Kirk one for 50, Lobum v. Kaiapoi Playing at Kaiapoi, Loburn beat Kaiapoi by 170 runs. Replying to the total of 266 runs made by Loburn on the first dav of play, Kalapol scored 96 runs (P. T. Capstlck 31 and L. Stead 19). Bowling for Loburn. P. McCracken took three wickets for 26 runs, G. Croft two for 18, and D. Hoskin two for 21. Junior A Grade RANGIORA V. CARLETON Rangiora secured an eight-point win against Carleton. Replying to Carletons first Innings strike of 62, Rangiora made 123 runs a week ago, and at stumps Carleton had 16 runs up without loss. The side was put out for 57 on Saturday (P. OTiOUghlin 27, K. Judson 13). Bowling for Rangiora, J. Cunningham took seven wickets for 20 runs. RANGIORA HIGH SCHOOL v, SEFTON A win by four runs was gained by Rangiora High School in its match against Sefton, at Sefton. On the first day, school opened for 113 runs and Sefton made 88. At stumps school had made 49 without loss. School’s second innings was finished for 134 runs on Saturday (M. Ballinger 43, M. Smith 39, E. Feary 24). The home side’s second strike produced 155 (L. Giles 30, G. Hales 22, and J. Criglington 21). Bowling for Sefton, G. Smith was the most successful, taking five wickets for 41 runs. For School, M. Macleod took five for 50 and Ballinger four for 56. Junior B Grade SWANNANOA v. FERNSIDE The Swannanoa-Fernside match was drawn. Swannanoa declared with 159 runs for the loss of nine wickets (M. Pearce 64, P. Brown 25, F. McHugh U), and at stumps Fernside had made 78 for the loss of seven wickets (Don Milne 25, G. Mitchell 20). Bowling for Fernside, Duncan Milne took four wickets for 45 runs and J. Sinclair two for 19. For Swannanoa, P. Brown took three for 30, and F. McHugh two lor 13. Amberley v. Kaiapoi Amberley gained a victory by 35 runs In its match against Kaiapoi, played at Amberley. Amberley, batting first, made 91 runs (X. Boyce 19, W. Boyce 16, R. Schofield 12, J. Schofield 12 not out, C. T. Hadley 11). Bowling for Kaiapoi, F. Eder took seven wickets for 50 runs and J. Healings two for 3. Kaiapoi replied with 56 runs (F. Eder 18 not out. A. Burns 17, H. Pearce 11). Bowling for Amberley, M. White took four wickets for 20 runs and I. Boyce three for 17. In its second innings Amberley made 68 for four wickets (I. Boyce 25 retired, and C. Hadley 24 retired). RIFLE SHOOTING KAIAPOI DEFENCE CLUB The Kaiapoi Defence Rifle Club fired its third Ashby Cup competition on Saturday afternoon. The conditions were seven shots at 300, .500, and 600 yards. The following were the leading scores:—
