NINE RECORDS BROKEN

SUCCESSFUL COLLEGE SPORTS ST. ANDREW'S ANNUAL FIXTURE Judging by the performances recorded at the St. Andrew's College annual, sports, the athletes from the college should be strong competitors for championship honours at the inter-secondary school sports next month. The meeting, which was held at the college grounds, was one of the most successful the . college has held, a total of nine records being broken. Two of these records were broken last Tuesday when several long-distance and field events were held. Although he was handicapped by an injured foot. R. Smith ran a magnificent race in the 440 yards senior scratch event, his time, 53sec, being lsec better than the previous record. J. L. Wood also ran well and set a record time of 2min 2 l-ssec for the 880 yards senior scratch event. The record for the 220 yards senior scratch race was also broken, N. T. Armstrong coverirg the distance in 23sec. D. Fairbairn broke the record for the 220 yards intermediate scratch event and W. B. Barlow broke the 100 yards and 220 yards junior scratch -ecords. A record that has stood since 1921 was broken when J. L. Walker put the weight 32ft Bin. D. Fairbairn also equalled the record for the 100 yards intermediate scratch race, his time being 11 l-ssec.
