WORK FOR PAINTERS
GOVERNMENT'S SCHEME [From Our Parliamentary Reporter.! WELLINGTON. September 13. It is expected that many unemployed painters throughout New Zealand will be given work through a scheme announced to-day by the Acting-Minis-ter for Labour (the Hon. P. C. Webb). These men -will be engaged in painting Government buildings, which are in need of attention. "The Government has been giving consideration to the situation of unemployed painters," the Minister stated in an interview, "and has decided to appeal to different Government departments to proceed with a comprehensive scheme for painting Government buildings. It is the desire of the Government to give work to every unemployed painter, who is physically Several works had already been set in hand, Mr Webb said, and he hoped that within the next few days he would be able to state that a considerable number of unemployed painters had been engaged in the very necessary work of repainting Government buildings.
