Her Excellency Lady Galway returned to Wellington by the Awatea yesterday. Lady Galway had been in England on a health-recruiting trip, and also to attend the Coronation. She had been away from New Zealand for five and a half months. On her return trip she left London on August 28 and travelled by air to Sydney, connecting with the Awatea. Her trip from England to New Zealand took 16 days.—Press Association. Mrs lan Buchanan (Knowles street) left yesterday for Tekapo. Mrs W. F. Browne and Misses Joan and Margot Browne (Latimer square) have returned from Auckland, where they have been spending the winter. They will take up residence at 61 Rossall street. Mrs Gerald Anderson and her children (Fendalton) have returned from a holiday spent at Chartens Bay. News has been received by cablegram from Mr and Mrs R. T. Tosswill, of Fendalton, who are spending a holiday in the East, that from Hong Kong they will fly to Manila, where they will stay until September 22. They will then go to Singapore on their return journey to New Zealand. Mrs Fleming (Nelson), who has been staying with her sister, Mrs Cecil Bonnington, Brown's road, returned home yesterday. Miss Marie Fleming is at present Mrs Bonnington's guest. Miss Betty Rutherford (Macdonald Downs, Ha warden) will be a visitor to Hawke's Bay for the Dominion golf championship, opening at Napier on September 30. She will be the guest of Mrs W. G. Stead, Flaxmere. Miss Rutherford is at present staying with Miss Maberley Beadel for the Christchurch Ladies' Golf Club's championship tournament. Miss Edith Kynofch (Christchurch) has joined the nursing staff of the Hobson Street Private Hospital, Wellington. Mr and Mrs T. J. .Stephens (St. Martins) have left for Wellington, where they will connect with the Awatea for a holiday visit to Australia. Mr and Mrs R. Chapman (formerly, of Stewart's Gully) have left to take up residence in Wellington. Mrs Walter J. Watson and Misses Yvonne and Denise Watson (Circuit street), who are spending a holiday at the Hermitage, Mount Cook, will return to Christchurch to-day. Mrs G. W. Forbes and Misses Bertha and Jessie Forbes (Crystalbrook, Cheviot) are friends in Wellington. Mr and Mrs G. Plimsoll (Whareora terrace, Cashmere), accompanied by Mrs Plimsoll's brother, Mr Haines, North Island, have been staying at their cottage, Seaview avenue, Akaroa. Mrs C. L. Young, principal of St. Margaret's College, Christchurch, who has been staying at "Wilderness," Akaroa, has returned to Christchurch. Mrs Bowron (Aikman's road, Merivale) is spending a holiday with | her niece, Mrs P. G. Two new members were welcomed. A motion of sympathy was passed! with the relatives of the late Mrs Morton, who had been a valued member of the institute. The secretary was instructed to write a letter of sympathy to the relatives of the late Mrs Barnett also. Final arrangements were made for the euchre party and dance to be held shortly. It was decided that the younger members should arrange the October meeting. An interesting talk was given by Miss G. M. Glanvill'e, who was accorded a hearty vote of thanks. Competition results were:—Vase of spring bulbs, Mrs J. Anderson 1, Mrs J. Whisker 2, Mrs Dick 3; sugar-bag article, Mrs J. Webster and Miss M. Graham (equal) 1, Mrs J. Whisker and Miss McLaughlin (equal) 2, Mrs Schnelle and Mrs J. Webster (equal) 3. Mrs R. Rogers and Misses Glanville and Jamieson acted as judges. The roll-call was a parade in the oldest hat, Mrs Schnelle gaining first place, Mrs Brown and Miss Brown being runners-up. Afternoon tea was served by Mesdames C. Chamberlain and Croft, Misses H.
