SOCIAL AND PERSONAL Mrs W. H. Orbell ("The Levels") has returned from a brief visit to Christchurch. Mrs James Ritchie (Deans avenue) is her guest. Miss Phillipa Riddiford (Wellington) is staying with Mrs J. C. Elworthy (Holme Station). Miss Jessie Gilkison (Gore), who was the guest of Mrs W. G. Hoskin (Simon's Hill, Mackenzie Country), has returned home. Misses Chassie and Maud Howden (Park lane, Timaru). who are visiting England, are expected to leave on their return to the Dominion next month. Mrs J. S, Satterthwaite (Waf-iti road) left on Saturday for Wellington. Mrs Arthur Wigley ("Opuha Lodge," Park lane) has returned from a visit to the Hermitage (Mount Cook). Miss Diana Elworthy (Gordon's Valley) left yesterday to stay with Miss Juliet Kain ("Gladstone Park," Orari). Mrs Neil Alexander, who has been staying with Mrs C. C. W. Haselden (Bank of New South Wales) left on Saturday to join her husband in Christchurch. Mrs Noel Hawkes (Orbell street) will visit Napier for the Dominion golf championship next month.

MRS ARIEL BENSION A ZIONIST EMISSARY VISIT TO CHRISTCHURCH NEXT WEEK I Mrs Ariel Bension, who arrived in Wellington yesterday, and will come to Christchurch next Tuesday, is completing a tour through Australia and New Zealand on behalf of the Women's International Zionist Organisation. She is a Canadian, widow of Dr. Ariel Bension, who was a distinguished Sefardi scholar and delegate

for the Keren Hayesod. Before her marriage, Mrs Bension was editor of the Canadian Jewish "Chronicle" for six years, and she has done much valuable work in Canada for the Jewish National Movement. After her marriage, Mrs Bension accompanied her husband all over the world, speaking on Zionism to thousands of women in English, French, Spanish, German, and Yiddish. During her visit to Christchurch, she will be entertained at an evening reception by Mrs B. Ballin. president, , and members of the local branch of i the Women's International Zionist Organisation.

PARTY AT FENDALTON Miss Laura Loughnan, who will soon leave Christchurch for a trip to Engi land, was entertained yesterday afternoon at a pleasant party given by Misses Barbara Lawrence, Sally WynnWilliams, and Molly Maling, at Miss Lawrence's home in Jackson's road, Fendalton. The guests were Mrs H. GIFT PARTIES Miss Betty Kennedy, whose marriage will take place shortly, was the guest of honour at a "kitchen" gift party given at Ranjuora by Mrs W. E. Barton, assisted by her daughter, Mrs T. C.
