OPEN CHAMPION BEATEN HATTERSLEY LOSES TO FERRIER (Received September 14, 12.20 a.m.) SYDNEY, September 13. A feature of the first round of match play in the Australian amateur and professional golf championships over 36 holes to-day was the defeat of the open chr-mpion, G. Naismith (Victoria), two up and one, by the Moore Park professional, C. Booth (New South Wales). Booth was three up at the end of 18 holes. Other results in the professional matches were:—N. G. von Nida (New South Wales) beat H. Spence (New South Wales), 9 up and 8; V. S. Richardson (New South Wales) beat H. Boorer (Victoria), 5 and 4. Other professionals to win their games were W. Bolger (New South Wales) and O. Walker (Queensland). In the amateur games J. Ferrier (New South Wales) beat H. W. Hattersley (New South Wales), 2 and 1. after a hard match. H. L. Williams (Victoria) beat W. A. Higgins (Victoria) by 3 and 2. Other winners included M. J. Ryan (Victoria). D. J. Davies (New South Wales), F. E. Headlam (New South Wales), and A. V, Rae (Victoria).
