The Rt. Hon. G. W. Forbes left for Wellington by the steamer express last evening. Mr G. H. Bartlett, of Christchurch, has been appointed a member of the Australasian Advisory Council of the Faculty of Secretaries, England. Mr A. D. Lawton, a lawyer member of the South African Rugby team, visited the Supreme Court in the city yesterday. He was introduced by Mr J. K. Moloney to the Hon. Mr Justice Northcroft, to Mr K. M. Gresson (president of the Canterbury Law Society), and to the Crown Prosecutor (Mr A. T. Donnelly). Mr J. Bruorton, chief traffic inspector, is spending a holiday on Banks Peninsula. He will return at the end of this week. A motion of sympathy was passed by the Timaru Borough Council last night with the relatives of Mr D. Stowell, a former councillor, whose death occurred during the week-end. Flying Officer E. B. Waters, of No. 1 (Army Co-operation) Squadron, New Zealand Royal Air Force, has been appointed to the permanent staff, and will arrive from Auckland this week for duty at Wigram Aerodrome. • Mr W. B. Cunningham, manager of the Dunedin branch of the Union Steam Ship Company of New Zealand, Ltd., has been transferred to Timaru. His place will be taken by Mr H. H. Dobie, manager of the Timaru branch. . Mr C. F. Jones, formerly of Christchurch, manager of the Oamaru branch of the Farm Accounting Association of New Zealand, and the Otago Farmers' Union Mutual Fire Insurance Association, has been appointed secretary to the Waitaki Electric Power Board. Mr M. C. Fairbrother, of Wellington, has been appointed secretary to the Automobile Association (Southland). There were 72 applications. Mr Reginald Hughes, of Invercargill, was appointed road officer, there being 271 applications.—Press Association. A resolution of sympathy with Mr F. W. Powell in his illness was passed at the annual meeting of the Riccarton Cricket Club last evening. The resignation of Mr B. O. Priddis as vicepresident and as a member of the executive of the Returned Soldiers' Association was accepted by the executive of the association at its meeting last evening. A resolution expressing appreciation of the services given the association by Mr Priddis in the various offices he has held was carried unanimously. Mr A. E. Haynes was elected vice-president, and Mr E. J. Peach was appointed to the executive to fill the vacancies caused by the resignation of Mr Priddis.
