ASHLEY COUNTY COUNCIL
I PURCHASE OF NEW POWER GRADER Those present at the last monthly meeting of the Ashley County Council were Crs. H. G. Philpott (chairman), T. Pulley, E. Percy. G. Croft, J. W. Ensor, and J. D. McCracken. The chairman reported that the new power grader had been inspected before leaving Christchurch. and that one or two alterations had been made. Members agreed that the machine would be a great improvement on the old inadequate grader, and that better results would be obtained by the operator. It was agreed to support the nomination of Mr R. Peach for the vacancy on the Lyttelton Harbour Board created by the death of Mr W. K. McAlpine. It was decided not to apply for any special areas in the county to ne declared closely populated areas and restricted to a speed of 30 miles an hour. Different areas were discusred, but members agreed that the restriction was unwarranted in the district. Grants of £5 5s to the Canterbury Progress League and £2 2s to the St. John Ambulance Association, were made. Reporting on works for the month, ihe supervisor (Mr C. A. Belcher) reported that the work on county roads had been continued, and the following roads completed:—Loburn-Kowai road (273 yards), Sinclair's and Carr's roads (320 yards), and Station road (40 yards). The output of metal for the month had been 1412 yards. The financial statement showed receipts since last meeting to be £405 10s lid, and the debit balance at the bank £412 19s 10u.
