MARKETS AGAIN QUIET SEVERAL ISSUES LOSE GROUND Markets on the Christchurch Stock Exchange yesterday were again quiet and turnover was restricted mainly to industrials. A number of issues lost ground.
Banking A late sale of Commercial Bank of Australia on Saturday was reported at 17s 6d, and sellers yesterday offered at 17s sd. Bank of New South Wales dropped to £32, market closing 10s either way. Goldsbrough Morts wore weaker with sellers at 35s 2d. New Zealand Refrigerating, 10s paid, had dealings at 9s lid and 9s lOd, market closing 9s 9d buyers, 10s sellers. Kaiapoi Woollens, 17s paid, declined to 14s. Westport-Stock ton Coal, preference, relapsed to ss, market closing 4s lid buyers, 5s 3d sellers. Miscellaneous British Tobacco were firm with sellers and business at 49s 6d. Broken Hill Proprietary dropped to 77s and closed easier with sellers at 76s 9d, buyers at 76s 3d. Dunlop Rubber were weaker with sellers at 22s Bd, Sellers of Electrolytic Zinc, ordinary, reduced their limits to 54s 9d—the preference cased to 56s 3d and 55s 9d, and more were offered at the lower price. G. J. Coles were weaker at prices ranging from 96s to 955, and more were offered at the lowest price. Hume Pipe (Australia) were firm at 20s 2d, market closing Id either way. Taranaki Oilfields changed hands at 6s 3d and there were further sellers at that figure. Woolworths (South Africa) were fractionally weaker with business at 16s 4d, and there were further sellers at 16s 3d. Mining A late sale of Broken Hill South on Saturday was reported at 48s 6d—dealings yesterday were 48s and 47s lid, and more were offered at 48s, buyers at 47s lOd. Sellers of Mount Lyells reduced their limits to 42s 4d. A late sale of Mount Morgans on Saturday was reported at Us IJd —dealings yesterday were at 11s. Unlisted Stock Woolworths, Ltd., relapsed to £6 13s 6d, £6 13s. and £6 12s 9d, sellers staying in at the lowest price, buyers at £6 12s 6d.
SYDNEY Leading industrials continued to sag on the Sydney Stock Exchange yesterday, but the tone of the market was fairly bright. Mount Lyells and Barriers were steady. Gold shares were traded quietly.
