PARALYSIS IN AMERICA

Average of Twelve Gases a Day EPIDEMIC SPREADING IN CANADA (f NTT ED PRESS ASSOCIATION COPYRIGHT ■) (Received September 12, 11.20 p.m.) CHICAGO, September 11. With the infantile paralysis cases still increasing at the rate of 12 a day, including 18 deaths since August 1, the total number of cases is 228, Chicago continues to be the greatest sufferer in the nation. The schools are not expected to open before October 1. The Department of Education is undertaking the unusual experiment of conducting daily lessons by wireless for 450,000 pupils, who are expected not to lose any time when the schools resume. A message from Toronto says that 12 new cases of infantile paralysis have brought the number since June to 446, including 24 deaths. The total for the province is 1384. The opening of 43 schools has been postponed until September 30. The hours of work will be extended to avoid reducing the curriculum or the holidays.
