NEW BRIGHTON BEATS SUMNER

INTER-BOROUGH HOCKEY MATCH The annual inter-borough hockey match between the Sumner and New Brighton .teams was played at St. Leonard’s square, Sumner, on Saturday afternoon, and resulted in a win for the visiting team by 7 goals to 1. & Thompson was referee. After the match the visitors were entertained at afternoon tea in the Presbyterian Hall. The Mayor of Sumner, Mr T. Newburgh, who was iccompanied by the Mayoress, welcomed the Mayor and Mayoress of New Brighton (Mr and Mrs E. L. Smith), and the winning team, and congratulated New Brighton on its hetory. Mr Newburgh was supported v speeches from Mrs Newburgh, Miss *■ Fenton, captain of the Sumner team, ® G. P. Allen, and Mr Thompson, the manner coach. Suitable acknowledgements were made by the Mayor of Jew Brighton, who expressed the wish still more competitions should be |w*ed to the inter-borough contests.
