A DAY IN THE FIELD

N.Z. CRICKETERS’ LAS'* MATCH MR LEVESON-GOWER’S TEAM MAKES 3m» | (united vi:ess association— conrazouT » (Received September 9, 11.30 a.tn.|' SCARBOROUGH. September 8. In fine weather and on a perfect wicket the New Zealanders started one of the hardest tasks of the torn - , meeting Mr H. D. G. LevesonGower’s eleven in the last match of the famous festival at Scarborough. The English eleven batted first and made 380. Although ct the end of an arduous tour, the New Zealanders bowled and fielded with commendable zest. The wicket and outfield favoured the batsmen, but the Englishmen showed restraint practically throughout the innings, and were several times barracked for slow scoring. Lowry again frequently varied the attack. Cowie, Roberts, Weir, Gallichan, Moloney, and Donnelly were used for short spells, and there were 14 bowling changes before lunch. The first three wickets fell for 60. Wyatt once more fought determinedly in a crisis, and was assisted by Yardley, Nichols, and Maxwell. Wyatt was in for nearly four hours. The New'- Zealand fielding was keen. Donnelly was outstanding. He made a fine catch at the squareleg boundary and -was responsible for a brilliant throw-out from square-leg. The later batsmen hit brilliantly. Brown hit four fours and one six in one over off Gailichan. The spin bowlers persevered, in spite of the severe punishment, Moloney and Gailichan achieving well-deserved successes.

Hadlee made a magnificent running catch at long-on to finish the innings. The* attendance was 1000. Scores:—
