Miss V. Hynes (“Otahuna,” Tai Tapu) is spending a few weeks in Wellington.
Mrs T. P. Somerville (“Dunsyre,” North Linwood) has left for a holiday visit to Auckland, where she will be the guest of her daughter, Miss Margaret Somerville. Later she will be the guest of Mrs Iron Music, Whangarei. Dr Elizabeth Gunn, ActingDirector of School Hygiene (Wellington), is visiting Auckland.
Mi’s Jacobsen, widow of Dr. Oscar Jacobsen, died suddenly at her home in Wellington this week. Mrs Jacobsen, who was born at Glasgow, Scotland, and educated in England and France, spoke French fluently. She leaves one daughter, Miss Sonia Jacobsen.
Mrs O. H. Burns (Auckland), who has been spending some weeks visiting friends in Christchurch, has returned home.
Miss Blanche Hanna (Christchurch), who left for England last January for the Coronation celebrations, has since been on the Continent, and returned to London from Paris by aeroplane. She left England on August 7 by the Empress of Britain for Quebec, going on to New York and then across Canada to Vancouver. She is expected to arrive in Auckland by the Aorangi, which is due on September 20. Mrs G. Jamison and family have returned to their home at Chertsey after touring the North Island. Mrs Jack Ferguson (Akaroa) is spending a few days with Mrs A. L. Styche, Deans avenue. Mrs J. C. Bradshaw (Cashmere Hills) is visiting Mrs W. Thomas, Timaru. Mrs G. St. V. Keddell (Invercargill), who has been visiting her sister, Mrs L. W. Matson, Fendalton, has returned home. Mrs J. R. Loughnan (Fairlie) is the guest of Mrs J. A. S. Wait, St. Elmo Courts. Mrs G. F. Tobin (Invercargill), who has been visiting Christchurch, is now the guest of Mrs John Hunt, Pembroke. The marriage of Miss Sheila Howell, only daughter of Mr and Mrs W. H. Howell, Cave, and Mr H. Langley, took place in Tipperary, Ireland, yesterday. The was held at Noan, the home of her great-aunt, Mrs F. Armitage. Miss Patricia Simpson (“Darnley,” Salisbury street) has returned from Wellington. Advice has been received in Auckland that Miss Judy Aickin, who has been studying music in Sydney, has been awarded the Ethel Pedley Scholarship, which entitles her to two years' tuition at the Royal Academy of Music m London, and £ 125 a year.
“Inquirer” asks if any reader of “The Press ” can tell her how to clean a wire hair-brush. ■ A wedding of great interest in Rugby football circles took place jn Invercargill on Wednesday evening, when Miss Mona Mitchell was married to Mr J. Baird. The fathers of both the bride and bridegroom have been actively associated with the Southland Rugby Union for a number of years, and the bride is a sister of Mr N. A. Mitchell, the New Zealand representative footballer.
The patients and staff of Rannerdale Home assembled recently to say good-bye to Miss M. Button, who has resigned from the staff after eight years’ service. She was presented by Mr G.
