superior in a hard finish. They both bided thc-ir time m behind Top Hat, King Pluto, and Aiguille, but made a bold rush on the outer at the last fence. Once over it was a stern struggle, but Trackman, who had the inside running, finished a bit the better Even Money cut out Aiguille for third, followed by Top Hat, True Shaft, and King Pluto. There was very little between the first pair, and Trackman won through superior jumping. Another Outsider Backers experienced another reverse in the hack distance event, Warehi winning at a substantial price, with the favourite, Tidewaiter, unplaced. Warehi led practically all the way. Handiest to him early were Quadroon, Taillight, All Spirit, and Olivette. Middle moved up very fast down the back, and was second to Warehi at the half-mile, where Olivette, Taillight, All Spirit, and Ngatirihiri were the most prominent of the others. Quadroon went back, while Tidewaiter began to improve on his early bad position. The leading pair fought out the finish, Warehi hanging on better to beat Middle by a short neck. Ngatirihiri was a fair third, with Quadroon fourth; then Taillight, Tidewaiter, All Spirit, Olivette, and Master Limond. Warehi won well. Middle ran a good race, but the unlucky runner was Quadroon, who must have been hard to beat but for a check on the home turn. Tidewaiter finished well. Taillight ran very consistently, but was wide out on the turn. All Spirit got a bad passage. Taltoru Wins Again Taitoru paid a short price in the Higgle Handicap, but he won decisively. He allowed Grand Jury to make the pace, the field being fairly well bunched with the exception of Maine. There was a rush for position on the turn, Cerne Abbas being on the outc-i. but then Taitoru took up the lead. He was challenged by Gold Mission, Fersen, and Ccrne Abbas, but held on to hold Gold Mission well, with Hunting Cat beating Cerne Abbas and Fersen by a narrow margin for third. Taitoru has put up a great record during the last 12 months, and tins marked his eleventh win. Cerne Abbas looked a possible winner entering the straight, but weakened a little again in the run home, as also did Fersen. Hunting Cat ran very well alter a long spell. Won All The Way Jubilee Song led all the way to win the Scaliold Handicap. Ho was strongly challenged over the concluding stages by Lo wen berg and Gay Rebel, but hung on to win narrowly from this pair. Lowenberg had every chance, but Gay Rebel did not get a good passage, and looked unlucky. Myriam was handy throughout, and still well up entering the straight, but she did not finish on. Might, doing well over the last bit, finished fourth. Slippery broke down. Might ran well for a fresh horse. Favourite All The Way Joviality, favourite for the hack sprint, won all the way. He had Racecall on his inner all the way to the straight, but it was left to Dancing Lady to put up the strongest opposition. She had followed the leaders at three or four lengths’ interval, and she overhauled Joviality with every stride at the finish, but could not quite roach him. Racccall was a fair third, with Shirred Ribbon and Free Gold next. Free Gold played up at the start, and got left, but he showed a lot of pace when he got going. Joviality is very speedy, but docs not stick too well. He was well suited by the track. Won In The Last Stride Debham. having his first race since a spell, got up in the last stride to head Ben Braggic, who had led all the way. The field was well bunched early, but Royal Chief began to drift, and out of the back stretch had gone back to last, seven lengths from the leaders, Ben Braggic and Laughing Lass, who carried on x - ound the turn frem Debham, Haughty Winner, Greenwich, and Pakanui. Royal Chief moved up very fast from the three furlongs, but Ben Braggic was clear into the straight. He appeared lo be winning comfortably, but Debham came strongly to snatch victory on the post, while in another stride Royal Chief would have won. Then came Laughing Lass. Haughty Winner, and Pakanui, all well up. Ben Braggie should have won, his rider taking it a bit too easily at the finish. Debham, however, put up a good effort. Royal Chief’s finishing run from the rear was a feature of the race, and he greatly enhanced his Guineas prospects. Haughty Winner was not a likely winner over the last three furlongs, but he ran a fair race, as also did Laughing Lass and Pakanui. Icing failed and completed a bad day for Mr Currie’s stable.
