WOMEN'S, DIVISION OF FARMERS' UNION

♦ ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATED

The Belfast branch of the Women's Division of the Farmers' Union held a successful party to celebrate the fourth birthday anniversary of the branch. The president (Mrs T. Morton) welcomed visitors from neighbouring divisions, and the master of ceremon, Mrs Parlane (Halswell) represented the North Canterbury executive. The birthday cake, which was the gift of the members, was made by Miss Myra Morton, and iced by Mrs A. Pengelly. The programme included songs by Miss Twose and Mr S. Brown, and many of the guests enjoyed dancing to the music of Mr F. Miller's band. A statue dance was won by Miss Baynon and partner. In the card room the successful players were Mrs Hayton (Harewood) and Mr Wright. The rose bowl, given by the president to the visiting branch gaining most points in euchre, was presented to the Marshland branch. Competitions were won by Miss Mary Arnold and Mrs Chinnery. • The annual challenge cups were presented as follows: —Premier bloom. Miss Myra Morton, with Miss M. Branford as runner-up; most points in other competitions, Miss Myra Morton, with Mrs P. Taylor as runner-up. Mrs Jones (Styx), convener of the Waimairi bay at the Industries Fair, took the opportunity to present a photograph of the bay to Mr lan Morton, in appreciation of the help he had given.

AMBERLEY The August meeting of the Amberley branch of the Women's Division of the New Zealand Farmers' Union was held in the Town Hall and Mrs 1. F Croft presided. Misses M. Croft, W Chamberlain, and F. Shier were appointed to attend the country girls' educational course, to be held in Christchurch. Competitions were won as follows: Bowl of violets, Mrs Roberts 1, Mrs Milne 2. Miss Bristow 3; best article made for Is. Mrs Milner 1, Miss M. Naught 2. Miss G. Hislop 3: best darned sock, Miss G. Hislop 1, Miss Bristow 2. Miss G. Ward (Ohoka) gave a demonstration of the making of flowers from wood pulp. The hostesses were Misses M. Bristow and M. Busch.

KAIKOURA The monthly meeting of the Kalkoura branch of the Women's Division of the New Zealand Fanners' Union was held in the Masonic Hall. Mrs F. J. Monk presided. Mrs H. Wilson (Dominion president) Vhsmked the Kaikoura branch for its message of congratulation on her having received a Coronation decoration.
