WEDDINGS

STURGIS—BORTHWICK On July 17, at St. Leonard's, Woodcote, Oxon, the marriage was celebrated of Mr Peter Sturgis, elder son of Lieutenant-Colonel and Mrs H. R. Sturgis, of Moat Park farm, Isfleld, Sussex, and Miss Rachel Sybil Borthwick, younger daughter of the Hon. Algernon and Mrs Borthwick, of Woodcote House, Woodcote, Oxon. The Rev. E. A. Elliot officiated. The bride, who was given away by her father, wore a gown of white duchess satin, and' carried a prayer book. Blanche Westmacott (cousin of the bride) was the only child attendant, and there were two grown-up bridesmaids—Miss Margot GathorneHardy and Miss Veronica Calvocoressi. They all wore dresses of white embroidered organza with transparent leaves in their hair, and carried sheaves of auratum lilies. Mr Richard Fleming was best man. After the reception at Woodcote House, the bride and bridegroom left to spend their honeymoon in Germany and Austria. DAVIDSON—OAKLEY The marriage was celebrated recently at Ashburton of James Quested, second son of Mr and Mrs J. Davidson (Gisborne), to Dorothy Eileen, youngest daughter of Mrs C. Oakley and the late Mr W. Oakley (Ashburton). The Rev. L. P. Byron performed the ceremony, and Miss Elsie Lowrey was organist. The bride was escorted by her brother, Mr C. R. Oakley. She wore a trained frock of pearl-tinted satin, made on classical lines, with large pleated sleeves, the cowled bodice being trimmed in front with a spray of orange blossom. A coronet of orange blossom and pearls held in place her hand-embroidered veil of tulle, and she carried a shower bouquet of lilies, freesias and abutilons. Misses Hazel Oakley and Violet Withell attended as bridesmaids, wearing trained frocks of pale green embossed silk cloque made with fluted basques and small upstanding collars, the neckline being finished with pink and silver roses. Posies of matching flowers were arranged on the right side of their heads, and they carried bouquets of pink abutilons, roses, and carnations. Mr V. Challis was best man, and Mr D. Curran was groomsman. At the reception, Mrs C. Oakley received her guests wearing a navy patterned frock, a navy tailored coat, and a hat to tone. Her shoulder spray was of red hothouse flowers. For travelling, the bride wore a Coronation blue frock relieved with cherry buttons, a'cherry-coloured coat and accessories to tone. Mr and Mrs J. Davidson’s home will be at Gisborne.
