KAIAPOI WOMEN'S INSTITUTE

SOCIAL AND PERSONAL

The wedding of Miss Betty Harper, daughter of Mr and Mrs Maurice Harper (Waitawa), and Mr Bernard Thomas, son of the late Dr. C. E. Thomas and Mrs Thomas (Sophia street) will take plpce on August 3 in St. Mary's Church. Mrs Gladstone Robinson (Beverley House), who was staying with Mrs Sinclair-Thomson, "The Crossing." Woodbury, returned home on Saturday. Miss Ethel Devereaux is the guest of Mrs Alister Mackintosh (Sarah street), Mrs James Grant (Gray's Hills, Mackenzie Country), who has been visiting Christchurch, returned home on Saturday. . Miss A. Columb (Seadown) Is visiting Oamaru. Mrs W. H. Helmore. who has been the guest of Mrs B. E. H. Tripp ("Orielton"), spent the week-end with Mrs E. C. Studholme, Waimate. Mrs R. Fulton (Dunedin), who was the guest of Miss Ziesler, Elizabeth street, has returned south. Mrs Wilfred White and Miss Mary White ("Summerhill," Levels) have returned from a visit to Dunedin Mrs Paterson (Kimbell) is staying with her daughter, Mrs Drigcole, Upper Hutt. _ . Miss May Smith (Three Springs) is spending a holiday with Miss Doreen Driscole, Upper Hutt. Miss Ivy Oliver (Surrey Downs, Pleasant Point), and Miss Marjorie Jones ("Otiritiri"), have returned from a visit to Christchurch.

DANCE AT NORTH BEACH

The decision of the Bromley Football Club to hold its annual dance In the Memorial Hall, North Beach, • was fully justified by the large attendance at this entertainment held on Saturday evening. The distribution of paper hats, novelties., and streamers added to the enjoyment of the guests. , . _•*.*_ Members of the organising committee were Misses H. Purchas, J. King, H. Tarrant, F. Egan, and F. Jennings, and music was played by Percy Butler and his Serenaders. Mr L. R. Moore was master of ceremonies. , Novelty dances were won by Mrs w. BALL AT OTAIO

The Otaio residents held a successful ball in the Makikihi Public Hall. Music was plaved by Mrs Barrie's orchestra Miss B Martin and Mr J. Callister played the supper extras. Tlie president (Mrs E. J. Corcoran) presided at the monthly meeting of the Kaiapoi Women's Institute, held in the Orange Hall.

Motions of sympathy were passed with the relatives of Mrs H. S. Moore, a former member of the institute, and with Mrs Maxwell Ramsay in the death of Dr. Ramsay. Arrangements were made for a flag party, to be held on July 16. A demonstration was given by Mrs Ware (Ladbrooks), on the making of wood (ibre flowers.
