WEDDINGS

EARL—BLAKE

A quiet wedding was celebrated recently at St. Paul's Church, Cashel street, when Mary Elizabeth (Molly), only daughter of Mr and Mrs W. C L. Blake (Chertsey), was married to Harry Horner, youngest son of Mr and Mrs W. T. Earl, "Claremont, - ' Pyramid Valley, Hawarden. The Rev. A. Miller officiated and Mr Lilly was organist. A white angel-skin frock was worn by the bride, who was escorted by her father. The cowled folds at the square neckline of the frock were caught with a diamante clip, the long sleeves were full at the wrists, and the skirt was slightly trained. Her long tulle veil was held in place with orange blossom and her shower bouquet was composed of abutilons, freesias, sweet peas, and roses. Miss Reta White (Hawarden), who attended as bridesmaid, wore a frock of ruby-red silk velvet, the trained skirt being shirred at the back to give a bustle effect. Her shower bouquet was composed of petunias and abutilons to tone with her frock.

Mr Robert Manning (Hawarden) was best man.

At the reception held at Dixieland the bride's mother received the guests wearing a green suit and a hat to match.

The bride travelled in a nigger brown suit, a brown coat with a musquash collar, and accessories to tone.

MITCHELL—DAWSON

At St. John's Anglican Church, Rangiora, the wedding was celebrated recently of Alice Mary, third daughter of Mr and Mrs L. Dawson (Loburn), to Harold William, only son of the late Mr Mitchell and of Mrs Mitchell, Rangiora. Archdeacon Purchas performed the ceremony, and Mr Gibbs Jordan was organist. The bride was given away by her father. Her trained frock of cream ring velvet had leg-o'-mutton sleeves pointed over the hands, and the cowled neckline was caught with a sprig of orange blossom, which had been worn by her mother. From a halo of orange blossom her veil of cut tulle was arranged to fall in folds over the train of her frock, and she carried arum lilies and freesias arranged with abutilons, and trails of spring flowers. Miss Myrtle Dawson attended her sister wearing a frock of Coronationred ring velvet made on lines similar to the bride's frock, the square neckline being trimmed with hand-made flowers of red and gold velvet to match the muff which she carried. The flowers in her hair were also of the two tones.

Little Judy and Terry Carlyon, cousins of the bridegroom, attended as flower girl and page boy respectively. The former wore a Coronation-red frock of velvet and carried a gold muff, and the page boy wore a cream satin suit trimmed with gold buttons and ruffles of net.

Mr L. Thompson (Culverden) was best man. The bride was presented with a horseshoe by her nephew, Gavin Atkinson. The bride's mother received her guests at the parish hall. She wore an ensemble of green wool tweed relieved with lemon trimmings and her flowers were also in lemon tonings. She was assisted by Mrs Mitchell, who wore a navy blue frock and coat, and carried a posy of freesias. When Mr and' Mrs H. W. Mitchell left for their wedding tour, the latter was wearing a navy self-striped suit, a cream satin blouse, and navy and red accessories. She wore also a fur stole, the gift of the bridegroom. Mr and Mrs Mitchell will live at Rangiora.

PEARCE—MURPHY

The wedding took place recently at St. John's Anglican Church, Leeston, of Alison Clelland. only daughter of Mr and Mrs A. A. Murphy (Leeston), to Samuel, youngest son of the late Mr and Mrs S. Pearce, Brookside. The cercmonv was performed by the Rev. N A. Friberg, a former vicar of Leeston, and the organist was Miss B. Woodard. The church had been decorated by friends of the bride with greenery and pink daisies. Escorted by her father, the bride wore a frock of ivory satin, cut on classical lines, and made with a high neck, finished with roll collar and leg-o'-mutton sleeves. Satin buttons trimmed the back of the frock extending to a panel, which widened to form a flowing train. Her embroidered tulle veil was held in place with a coronet of orange blossom and she carried an armlet of longiflorum lilies, cream abutilons, and maidenhair fern. . There were two bridesmaids. Misses Ettie Renwic, cousin of the bride, and Peggy Mclntyre. They wore cameopink lace frocks over deeper satin, cut on similar lines to the bride's frock, the square necklines being pointed at Ihe back and the bodices having full bishop sleeves and shaped basques, finished with hand-made flowers to tone with the flowers at the neckline. Both attendants wore coronets of lace trimmed with handmade flowers and silver leaves, and their bouquets were of pink abutilons. Two little flowergirls. Misses Shirley Robertson, niece of the bridegroom, and Annabelle Fi?her, wore frocks of ivory satin, replicas of the bride's frock, the square necklines being finished with bands of shirring. Their head-bands were of hand-made pink flowers and silver leaves and their posies of pink and pale blue abutilons.

Mr E. Jackman attended as best man and Mr Charles Merriman as groomsman.

During the signing of the register a solo was sung by Miss Betty Munro. On leaving the church the bride was presented with a lucky horseshoe by little Margaret Pearce, niece of the bridegroom.

At the reception, held in the Town Hall. Mrs Murphy received her guests wearing a navy blue ensemble and a navy hat relieved with a touch of scarlet and a chromium ornament. Her posy wcs of abutilons and poinsettias. The bridegroom's sister, Mrs J. Robertson, wore a black suit, a lemon blouse, and a black hat trimmed with a feather mount. Her posy was of lemon abutilons and agapanthus lilies. Mrs Pearce travelled in a brown suit, a lemon blouse, and a hat and accessories to tone. She wore also an American opossum stole, the gift of the bridegroom, and carried a furtrimmed coat in deep mulberry shade.
