FIRE BRIGADE AT SUMNER
ANNUAL PRESENTATION OF AWARDS
The annual presentation of the awards to members of the Sumner Volunteer Fire Brigade took place in the Sumner Town Hall on Saturday evening. The superintendent of the Sumner Volunteer Fire Brigade, Mr G. E. Harper, introduced the Mayor of Sumner, Mr T. Newburgh, who congratulated the Sumner brigade on its successes in the Nelson demonstration, and referred to the valuable work done in the borough by the members. He particularly congratulated Foreman J. R. Williams on his 35 years continuous service, and presented him with his fifth gold bar. He presented the other awards as follows: —Branchman E. O'Neill, gold bar, 27 years' service; Foreman J. Senior, silver bar, 17 years' service: and Fireman E. Maddock, silver medal, five years* ser' vice.
