WELLINGTON. July 4. The weather forecast for Canterbury and Marlborough, issued at 5 p.m. by the Meteorological Office, Wellington, and dealing with the 24 hours following the time of issue, is as follows:—■

Light to moderate variable winds with easterlies or souther lies prevailing; weather cloudy to overcast, with occasional misty showers; seas slight to moderate.

WEST COAST The following is the forecast for the West Coast of the South Island:—

Light to moderate variable winds with easterlies or southerlies prevailing; weather mainly fair to cloudy, but some isolated rnistv rain probable; seas slight to moderate.

DOMINION The Dominion forecast is:—

For the most part fair to cloudy but isolated showers or misty rain probable at times in most districts. Pressure is still fairiy high and uniform over New Zealand and an intense anti-cyclone covers Australia, but a shallow depression lies over the central and southern portions of the Tasman Sea.

Winds—Light to moderate and variable, with southerly to easterly prevailing at first, but later tending to northerly temporarily in the south. Seas (New Zealand waters)— Slight to moderate. Eastern Tasman Sea— Light to moderate and variable winds, but southerlies soon prevailing, and freshening somewhat; seas slight to moderate.

CHRISTCHURCH WEATHER

Cold and damp weather, with an overcast sky, marked the week-end in Christchurch. On Saturday, when there was a light south-westerly wind, the maximum temperature was 42 degrees. Yesterday the morning was calm but a light north-east wind arose later in the day. The maximum temperature was 43.9 degrees.

At 1 o'clock this morning the sky was clear and a light southwesterly breeze was blowing. The temperature was 30 degrees, and the barometer was steady at 30.01 in.

IN OTHER PLACES

Auckland—The week-end was Arte, but partly unsettled. Saturday was the first really fine day after almost a week's rain, and the sky was clear. While there was a very light southeasterly wind, fine weather continued yesterday until early in the afternoon, when there was a fairly heavy shower. The rain stopped in less than an hour but the sky was still dull with a threat of more rain, and there was a light south-easterly wind. Wellington—Saturday was very fine with warm sunshine and a slight southerly breeze. During Saturday night conditions changed, and yesterday was dull with intermittent light rain and a slight breeze from the south. Dunedin—There was a severe frost on Saturday, and cold temperatures continued. Throughout the day, the sky was overcast, and no sunshine was recorded. The barometer was steady at 30.20 inches. The sun shone brightly yesterday, but a light south-easterly breeze kept temperatures low, the maximum being 45 degrees. Late in the afternoon the barometer showed a slight falling tendency.
