TRAM NOISES DROWN PRAYERS

CEREMONIES OUTSIDE THE CATHEDRAL

The noise of trams, competing with and drowning the voice of Archbishop Julius as he spoke the Blessing, is referred to in the July issue of the "Church News" as a regrettable feature of the ceremony at the unveiling of the new war memorial in the Cathedral grounds. "The traffic department released the trams before the ceremony was quite complete," the "Church News" says,' "and for all save the radio listeners the Archbishop's final blessing was drowned by the noise of the trams.

"It always seems to happen so. Every Anzac Day the Bishop"s prayers after the silence have been drowned by the grinding of trams past the Cathedral door."
