MALVERN POWER BOARD
Members present at the last monthly meeting of the Malvern Electric Power Board were: Messrs John Deans (chairman), H. C. Amyes, G. Begg, G. H. Judd. and H. Oliver. . The Municipal Electricity Department wrote offering to take up the £SOOO reticulation loan shortly to be floated by the board. The engineer and secretary in his monthly report said that during the recent gales only two poles failed, both oeing low tension line supports. Steady progress had been made with the third overhaul of the Whitecliffs-Coalgate .eeder and 42 poles had been removed o date from this line.
It was agreed, in view of the reduction in capital values through the revaluation of the Malvern and Selwyn Counties, to make the rate for the current year, the same as last year, —7-32 din in the £. which would represent approximately a 5 per cent, "eduction in rates collectable.
Mr Deans gave notice to move at a fecial meeting on July 5. the required pecial order to make the rate available to these properties within 10 chains of a power surrly whose own~rs. or occupiers dulv lodged written objections within 90 days of the receipt of rate demands. A line extension in Russell's Flat estimated to cost £ll4 was authorised for construction, subject to the guarantee of £l7 being accepted by the consumer concerned.
