WOMEN'S DIVISION OF FARMERS' UNION
LYNJJON-WAIAI
The monthly meeting qf the Lyn-don-Waiau junior branch of the Women's Division of the New Zealand Farmers' Union was held recently. The president, Miss M. Smale, presided. It was decided to grant £1 Is to the community chest fund. A competition for the best-knitted garment resulted as follows:—Miss M. Savage 1, Miss B. Smale 2, Mrs W. Savage 3, Miss M. Oldman 4. At the next meeting a demonstration of pastry -making will be given.
The hostesses were Misses M. Savage, M. Oldman, and B. Smale.
SWANNANOA
There was a large attendance of visitors at the third birthday -party of the Swannanoa branch of the Women's Division of the New Zealand Farmers' Union. A duet in costume was given by Misses Sue and Katherine Burgin. Other items were given by Miss Newman, Misses Carol and Pat Fraser, and Norman Fraser. The birthday cake was cut by Mrs H. I. Sutherland. Music for dancing was supplied by Miss D. Brady, and the masters of ceremonies were Messrs J. Winter and W. Brown. A lucky spot waltz was won by Mr J. Whitham and partner, and a MonAe Carlo dance was won by Miss D. Brady and Mr B. Fitzpartick.
FERNSIDE-SPRINGBANK
The Fernside-Springbank branch ut the Women's Division of the Farmers' Union met at the home of Mrs F. Dawson, with the president (Mrs H. E. Evans) presiding. Mrs C. Rands and Miss M. Carpenter were elected delegates to the annual conference of the division in Wellington.
Mrs J. A. Mackenzie read a short comedy. A competition lor madiera cake resulted:—Mrs W. Morris 1, Mrs R. Taylor 2.
STYX
The monthly meeting of the Styx branch of the Women's Division of the Farmers' Union was held recently in the Northcote Hall. Mrs R. Jones presided.
During the afternoon a demonstration on rope mats was given, followed by community singing, with Mrs Pahi playing the piano. Mrs Reynolds and Mrs Owen, of the Papanui branch, judged the competitions, which resulted: —Six assorted biscuits, Mrs Spencer 1, Mrs Jones 2; best darned socks, Mrs Stoddart 1, Mrs Low 2; tumbler flowers, Mrs Gerard 1; single bloorn, Mrs J. Clark 1.
The hostesses for the afternoon were Mrs J.« Clark, jun., and Mrs Clark, sen.
