NORTH CANTERBURY

METHODIST SUNDAY SCHOOL UNION TEACHERS' CONFERENCE AT RANGIORA _ Between 100 and 150 teachers from Christchurch and surrounding districts will attend the North Canterbury Methodist Sunday School Union's annual teachers* conference in Rangiora on Wednesday. The conference will open with a service in the Methodist Church conducted by the president of the union (Mr J. N. Lewis, of Rangiora). at which the address will be given by the Rev. E. P. Y. Simpson (Rangiora). A business meeting, a group study, and a devotional service will also be held, and visitors will be entertained to dinner and tea by the Rangiora teachers. Gun Club's Opening Shoot Two 12 clay bird handicap events were held by the North Canterbury Gun Club at its opening shoot at Rangiora on Saturday afternoon. There j was a good attendance and, when welcoming competitors, the president (Mr . I. G. Watkins) said he hoped the at-' tendance would be equally good throughout the season. The club did not have a full programme last season, but has arranged for eight matches this year. Sixteen competed in the first event, D. Davison (17yds), L. Kerr (17yds), and G. A. Bruere (16yds) scoring the Sossible and dividing the prize-money, •avison and Kerr won an optional sweep. In the second event, the possible of 12 was scored by D. Davison (18yds), L. Kerr (18yds), A. Kimber (15yds). J. Brightling (15yds) and A. N. Turner (16yds), who shared the prize-money. There were 13 competitors. In an optional sweep, I. G. Watkins and Davison divided, with 10. A preliminary six-bird handicap was fired among 17 and eight divided the money. Rangiora Drama Class Three one-act plays are being produced by the weekly drama class in Rangiora under Mr G. A. Worthington (Association for Country Education). The plays are "The House with the Twisty Windows," "The Christening," and "Cupid Rampant." and members of the class are learing much from the rehearsals. Demonstrations on make-up and other aspects of the presentation of plays are being given by Mr Worthington. The class has now a membership of 19. Another Movie Ball As the movie ball held by the Rangiora branch of the Plunket Society last year was such a success, the branch has decided to hold another one this year. The function will take place early next month, and Mr A. Haigh •will again act as organiser. Hunt Club's Point-to-Point A meeting of the committee of the Brackenfield Hunt was held in Rangiora on Friday evening. It was decided to hold the annual point-to-point meeting on June 26. A course will be selected near Rangiora. Mr Denis Chapman presided at the meeting. Officials for the point-to-point will be:—Starter. Mr J. Brosnan; judges, Messrs J. H. Grigg and M. Bethell; clerk of the course. Mr H. D. Greenwood; clerk of the scales. Mr R. Macdonald; selectors of the course. Messrs D. Chapman and H. M. Burgin. It was decided to hold the annual ball at Amberley on the night of the point-to-point. Fourteen new members were elected. Basketball Competition Matches in the North Canterbury Basketball Association's competition on Saturday afternoon resulted as follows: Ashley 11. Balcairn 0; Oxford B 35, Tu Ahuriri 2: Oxford A beat Ohoka by default; Rangiora A 25, Rangiora High School 5; Clarkville 3. Rangiora B 2. LOBURN FRUITGROWERS' ASSOCIATION OFFICERS ELECTED FOR YEAR Officers elected at the annual meeting of the Loburn Fruitgrowers' Association were:—President, Mr J. W. Macleod; vice-presidents, Messrs C. H. Hassell and F. Hill: secretary and treasurer, Mr H. R. Sampson; auditor, Mr J. R. Wilkinson; committee, Messrs A. V. Kerr, A. W. Thomas. R. Stead, B. Cook, and J. Whitehouse; delegates to Canterbury provincial conference, Messrs Macleod. Sampson, Hassell and Thomas, with Mr E. K. Banfield as substitute. A credit of £5 was shown in the financial statement and £2 2s was granted to the King George V Memorial Fund.

Mr Macleod presided over a large attendance.
