CHINESE ART EXHIBITION
The special exhibit for to-day at the exhibition of Chinese art at the Robert McDougall Art Gallery is an octagonal bowl of delicately potted porcelain. On the back in alternate panels in enamel colours are flowers and birds of the four seasons, prunus, peony, lotus, and chrysanthemum. The alternate panels contain the dragon-horse, a Kylin, a horse, and a deer, in landscape settings. On the vase is a mark of the Ming Emperor, Cheng Hua (A.D. 1465-87), but the piece was made in the reign of K'ang Hsi (A.D. 1662-1722). It is of the class known as "famille verte," as the predominating colour is green. It was lent by Mr Arthur Whittall, Burgh Heath, Surrey. The number in the guide to the exhibition is 267.
