hj ANNUAL REPORT f RECEIVED TEAR'S WORK REVIEWED A satisfactory year, both in work and from a financial standpoint, was claimed in the annual report of the chairman of the Waimairi County Council (Cr. G. G. Gardner), received last evening. Additional surface sealing of roads had been carried out, the most important being part of the Masham-Belfast highway. Operations had progressed in the electrical department, additional consumers had been connected, and, in spite of reduced charges, revenue had been well maintained, although the profit and loss account showed a debit of £l3l. Bates collected during the year had ■mounted to £15,366, compared with £15,174 during the previous year. During the year, 163 building permits were Issued, as compared with £s in the previous year, and the reepective total values were £78,625 and £52,375. Values of permits issued in the ridings were as follows (figures for the previous year in parenthesis): Styx, £ll3O (£2160); Marshland, £965 <£3075); Avon, £3255 (£4255); Belfast. £2745 (£630); Harewood, £4lO <£2785); Papanui, £4415 (£2780); iWairarapa, .£2995 .(£2585); Fendalton,
£40,921 (£26,920); Middleton, £21,789 (£5085). Main highways maintenance-costs amounted to £3062, as compared with £3BBI. With the deduction of the recoverable subsidy, the expenditure was £767, as compared with £965. Wages paid amounted to £6098, as compared with £4474. No. 5 scheme wages administered were £10,291, as compared with £16,002. Electrical revenue amounted to £21,252, compared with £23,785. The council decided to support the resolution forwarded by the Makara County Council that legislation should provide that any amalgamation scheme should be submitted to a poll of ratepayers. __________„._
