CONTRACT FOR BIG DREDGE (raiss tssoeiATtov tileoeim.) DUNEDIN, April 20. The tender tor the construction at Lowburn of what will be the largest gold dredge in New Zealand has been let to two Dunedin firms. A. and T. Burt, Ltd., and the Dunedin Engineering and Steel Company. The contract at present covers the supply and erection of the pontoons only, the material for which will come from Australia. The approximate weight of the dredge will be 700 tons, and its dimensions will be: Length, 176 feet; width, 75 feet; depth, 13 feet six inches. The plant as originally proposed by the company will be capable of dredging at least 3,500,000 cubic yards per annum. Austral-New Zealand Mining Company, Ltd., is a New Zealand company, registered in Christchurch, with a capital of £605,000. It was formed in July of last year to acquire and work by bucket dredging gold-bearing lands in New Zealand. The area to be worked is approximately 1600 acres in the Lowburn district.
