A middle-aged sadhu (Indian ascetic), after spending 40 days bricked up without food in a small room at Batala (Punjab), recently emerged hale, hearty and cheerful. On the day on which he ended his meditation and the room was opened, an enormous crowd gathered outside. Renouncing the world, he went to Batala, where he decided to enter upon his meditation in a sealed room eight feet square. The room was completely sealed, except for two holes in the roof, the only passage through which air could penetrate. He says that during the 40 days he lived in an immense world, his inner self or soul visiting Hardwar and other holy places in India.
