CERTIFICATES OF FITNESS

TESTS FOR MOTORVEHICLES

ISSUE OF LICENSES BY

GARAGES

The new regulation in the MotorVehicles Act governing the inspection of motor-vehicles provides that a warrant of fitness may be issued “only by a city authority or a person or firm appointed or approved for the purpose by the Minister.” ~ . , „ Mr L. C. A. Byers, president of the Canterbury branch of the New Zealand Garage Proprietors’ Association, said yesterday that authority to conduct tests and issue certificates had been given to all proprietors of A grade garages who were members of the New Zealand Garage Proprietors’ Association. <. Members of the association whose garages were not classed as A grade and who wished to conduct tests could ask permission of the Minister, who would then have them inspected. All A grade garages have an emblem in a conspicuous place outside.

The charge being made by the garages, Mr Byers said, was 2s 6d, and the license ‘issued would be exactly the same as that given by local authorities.
